Hemp press cake is produced during the cold-pressing of hemp seeds to extract oil. This process leaves valuable nutrients in the press cake, such as plant protein, fibre, unsaturated fatty acids and bioactive compounds. The press cake has a typical residual oil content and contains around 30–35% protein as well as significant amounts of micronutrients. The mucilage from the seed coat contributes to water retention and texture.

In the animal feed industry, hemp press cake is used as a component rich in protein and crude fibre in mixed rations – particularly for ruminants, horses and poultry. In food processing, it is suitable (after grinding) for protein fortification or as a technical ingredient in baked goods, doughs or plant-based products. Hemp press cake can also be used as a raw material for flours or as a carrier in upcycled applications.
