Wheat germ oil is obtained by mechanical cold-pressing fresh wheat germ and is then filtered. It contains around 63% polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly linoleic and alpha-linolenic acid, as well as approximately 17% saturated and 15% monounsaturated fatty acids. It also provides natural levels of vitamin E and other beneficial phytochemicals. The oil is mild in flavour, clear, and ranges in colour from reddish-gold to orange-red, with a characteristic consistency.

It is used in the food industry – for example, in functional oil blends, speciality baked goods, food supplements and dietary products. Wheat germ oil is also used in the cosmetics and animal feed industries, particularly due to its fatty acid profile and its stability during gentle processing.
