Description (organic) linseed:
(Organic) Linseed is the seed of the flax plant, one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world. The seeds have a colour spectrum from light yellow to dark brown. They are small and egg-shaped and taste slightly nutty. Linseeds contain about 40 % fat with a high proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Flax seeds are therefore a particularly good source of omega-3 fatty acids. In addition, they are suppliers of dietary fibre and vitamin E. A special property is the mucilage contained in the shells, which regulates digestion. Flaxseeds are also rich in so-called lignans, secondary plant substances that have a weakened effect like the hormone oestrogen.
Large quantities of linseed are pressed into linseed oil. The rest is used directly as food. In order for the mucilage from the hulls to be used optimally by the body, linseeds should be consumed ground. For this purpose, they are mainly found in baked goods and muesli. Linseed products are used in the pharmaceutical sector for various diseases, including digestive problems.
