The sunflower is a 1-2 m tall, annual, herbaceous plant. The main cultivation areas today are China, the United States, Russia, Ukraine and the rest of Europe. On the other hand, the kernel shells contain a lot of natural vitamin E, as well as vitamins A, F and the B-complex. Significant amounts of vital substances include carotene, calcium, iodine and magnesium, which ensure a healthy mineral balance. An interesting fact is that 100 g of sunflower seeds contain more protein than a steak.
As early as the 17th century, sunflower seeds were used to bake and make coffee. Since the 19th century, the sunflower has also been used as an oil plant. Sunflower oil is used as cooking oil, lubricating oil, fuel and softener in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and industry. Sunflower seeds are eaten raw as a snack or used to refine salads and mueslis. They are also added to bird feed.
