The chickpea originated in the Himalayas, in Asia. Via trade routes, the legume reached the Near East and then by ship to Europe. Chickpeas have been an integral part of the human diet for over 10,000 years. The (organic) chickpea flour has a very high iron content and contains about 20% protein, besides it is rich in fiber. The flour has a slightly nutty flavor.
In the kitchen especially known as an ingredient for hummus, dips, purees and stews. Also in demand as a substitute for cereal flours.
